Don't you find it a little weird that Harry Potter rides a broom?

I was thinking that the other day. Whoever thought of witches and wizards riding brooms anyway?? But if they rode mops everyone in the crowds would get wet if they flew over them. I suppose flying on broomsticks is just very practical. [Sentence I never thought I'd say]
