TaxCut 2008 & a valid Dependent w/o ITIN.?

I have this 2008 Taxcut Premium Fed & state. I need to file an ITIN. So I will be filling in this W-7 form along with my return. However taxcut is not recognizing anyone without a valid SSN/ITIN as a dependent. So, How do I include the dependent in my tax return and claim the exemption etc. ? I know of filing an amended return once the ITIN comes. But is it the only way ? TIA.
